HAPPY WANDERER: Benalla’s boutique music festival returns Melbourne Cup Weekend 2017. PHOTO: Pippa Samaya, provided by Happy Wanderer Festival.
Happy Wanderer Festival returns to Benalla, Victoria over the Melbourne Cup long weekend in 2017 celebrating five years of fun, friendship, great music and fantastic workshops.
Happy Wanderer grew out of a farm working bee into a boutique music festival and is run by a collective of friends passionate about local music, sustainable farming and appreciation of the stunning north-eastern high country landscape.
Hosted on the farm of sustainable farmer, winemaker and forager, Mark Foletta, it’s not the first festival thrown by the Foletta family. In the late 1970s, his father and uncle hosted the Yin Barun Beer and Wine Festival on the farm.
Happy Wanderer has always boasted a collection of outstanding up-and-coming and established artists across genres, and this year is no different. Its first artist announcement includes:
- Adam McGrath (roots/rock)
- Echo Drama (dub, reggae, hip hop)
- Good Stuff DJs (Zol Balint and Claire Lefèbvre)
- Hollie Joyce (garage rock)
- Immigrant Union (psychedelic folk/country)
- Liv Cartledge (singer songwriter)
- Mandy Connell (folk)
- Rat Child (jazz, neo-soul, blues)
- Super Magic Hats (electronic)
- The Woodland Hunters (roots/rock)
- Whiskey Dram (heavy folk rock)
A favourite with musicians and festival-goers alike, Happy Wanderer is a family-friendly event. In addition to incredible musicians, wanderers enjoy splashing in the river, a program of workshops including daily yoga, and tours of the farm.
Two rounds of early bird tickets have already sold out, and the following round of early bird tickets are selling fast. To keep the laid-back family-friendly atmosphere, under 500 tickets are available.
