Taste the best of Beechworth this November
The Beechworth Vignerons Spring Tasting returns bigger than ever, with close to 30 winemakers set to congregate in the historic town centre on November 18 2017 and exhibit their finest current-release wines. Now in its fourth year, the laidback expo-style event will showcase a comprehensive range of classic and alternative varietals from this small but impressively diverse wine region in the foothills of the Victorian Alps.
Nathan Kinzbrunner from the Beechworth Vignerons Association (and Giaconda) says the Spring Tasting is a rare opportunity for local winemakers to share their wines and stories with visitors first-hand.
“We want to celebrate and build understanding of the Beechworth wine-growing region,” Nathan says. “It’s worth bearing in mind that some of these wines can be hard to find as the producers are generally small family run operations and the wines tend to sell out quickly.”
Alongside well-established names including Giaconda, Brokenwood, Pennyweight, Sorrenberg, Savaterre and Castagna, attendees of the annual event will be able to sample wines from newer producers such as Vignerons Schmölzer & Brown, Sentio Wines and Haldon Estate, as well as five- star wineries A. Rodda, Golden Ball, Fighting Gully Road,Piano Piano and Indigo Vineyard.
Tasters will receive a Riedel glass on entry and are encouraged to take advantage of local gourmet cheeses and sourdough treats on offer. Many of the wines can be ordered on the day direct from their makers.
Nathan says now is the perfect time to get acquainted, or reacquainted, with Beechworth wines because there is a “real buzz” about the region. “It’s an exciting time as we continue to welcome new winemakers to the area who have recognised the outstanding potential of Beechworth’s terroir and want to build their future here,” he says.
In addition to the region’s renowned chardonnay and shiraz, standout examples of nebbiolo, sangiovese, viognier and marsanne – among others – will be unveiled at the Spring Tasting. Other producers to keep an eye out for include Amulet, Beechworth Wine Estates, Bowmans Run, Domenica, Indigo Vineyard, James and Co, Madman’s Gully, Oxenbury Vineyard, Serengale Vineyard, The Ninth Mile, Traviarti, Vinelea, Virago, Warner Vineyard and Willem Kurt.
